Journey of C.J. Stroud
In the realm of American football, there are stories that transcend the field – stories of determination, resilience, and the power of family. C.J. Stroud’s journey embodies all these qualities and more. From his early years to his ascent in college football and beyond, let’s delve into the inspiring tale of C.J. Stroud.
Early Life and Background
Coleridge Bernard “C.J.” Stroud IV was born on October 3, 2001, in Rancho Cucamonga, California. His parents, Kimberly and Coleridge Stroud, provided the foundation for his remarkable journey. Despite facing various challenges, Stroud’s parents instilled in him a strong work ethic that would shape his character in the years to come.
A Roller Coaster Ride
Stroud’s life journey was akin to a roller coaster, marked by highs and lows that shaped his resilience. His father, Coleridge, played a significant role in introducing him to the game of football. However, Stroud’s childhood was not without its hardships. At the tender age of 13, his life took a tumultuous turn when his father was incarcerated. The experience forced him to grow up quickly and face life’s complexities head-on.
In a candid interview, Stroud shared his perspective on his journey: “My life has been like a roller coaster. It’s been up and down. I’ve been through hell and back. I’ve been through so much in my life. I had to grow up early. I had to grow up really fast.”
A Father’s Influence
Coleridge Stroud, a pastor at the Life Application Christian Center in Rancho Cucamonga, played a pivotal role in C.J. Stroud’s life. His father’s positive influence ignited Stroud’s passion for football and other endeavors. Despite facing personal struggles, Coleridge transformed his life, leaving behind a troubled past. He became not only a pastor but also a successful executive, coach, and father to his children – Isiah, Asmar, Cieara, and C. J.
The Stroud family’s journey was not without challenges. A series of setbacks led to his father’s incarceration, impacting the entire family. In 2016, Coleridge was convicted of carjacking and kidnapping, and he is currently serving time at California’s Folsom State Prison.
Resilience and Advocacy
Stroud’s journey taught him valuable life lessons and inspired him to become an advocate for those navigating challenging childhoods. While Stroud initially struggled with his feelings towards his father’s absence, he eventually found a path of understanding and forgiveness. He expressed his sentiments about his father’s situation, acknowledging the complexities of life and the stress Black men often face.”I just look at the things my dad did that were positive, but for a while, I wasn’t like that. I hated my pops, for real. Like man, how could you leave me like that? As I became an adult, I realized the stress it is on Black men to uphold the household. A lot of people don’t care about us. Even some people in your own house don’t care. You have a job to do… And that’s a lot of stress. If I didn’t have God in my life, I don’t know where I’d be.”
Rising Above
C.J. Stroud’s journey is one of resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. From facing challenges to embracing the values instilled by his parents, he emerged as a beacon of inspiration for many. His story serves as a reminder that with perseverance and the support of loved ones, one can rise above adversity and create a legacy that transcends the playing field.
