It will be very challenging for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fire Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, according to Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, an NPP presidential candidate.
It will be challenging to fire Nana Addo because of his ties to Ken Ofori-Atta’s family, according to him.
He went on to say that the “family and friends” system of government has contributed to the underdevelopment of the nation and that Ofori-Atta’s dismiss always made by the president in order to advance Ghanaians’ interests rather than his own personal feelings.
He said “Nana Addo has been through thick and thin with his cousin, Ken Ofori-Atta. That’s why people have challenges with friends and family in government. When you’re a president, you take a decision in the interest of the nation and not in the interest of what’s good for Nana Addo.”
Nsafoah Poku added: “If I had a cousin, no matter how good he is, I will not be put in that position. There are other people who are also good to do the same job. Because you might end up having family issues at home. Sacking your cousin is not light; you will fall out with him.”
Despite pressure from NPP MPs to fire Ofori-Atta for mismanaging the economy in October 2022, President Nana Akufo-Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has resisted the call.
The President bargained with the MPs during a meeting to gain some time to respond to their demands.
Nana Addo’s most recent ministerial shuffle left Ofori-Atta alone, despite the fact that he has been the target of intense pressure from some Ghanaians and lawmakers.
The MPs are calling for Ofori-Atta to be fired due to his poor handling of the economy.
Meanwhile, in the nine constituencies in the Oti Region, 23 candidates, including two women, have successfully filed their paperwork to run in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.
The Krachi East Constituency has the most candidates in the area with five, followed by the Guan, Akan, and Nkwanta North Constituencies with three each.
