The beginning of the school selection process for applicants to the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has been announced by the Ministry of Education.

“To provide clarity and guidance on the selection process, the Ministry has developed an informative video that elaborates on the School selection guidelines,” a statement issued by Kwasi Kwarteng, Spokesperson for the Ministry said.

The exams, which are being taken by just over 600,000 candidates nationwide and end on Friday, August 11, 2023.

In a related news, The headteacher of Buduatta DA Junior High School will be disciplined, according to a directive from Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum to the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to reports, some students were not registered by the headteacher Richard Ahunyagbe for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

After some final-year Buduatta JHS students in the Gomoa East District were left stranded at the start of the BECE on Monday, it was claimed that Mr. Ahunyagbe embezzled the money intended for registration fees.

Students who were unable to participate in the exam could be seen sobbing bitterly.

Parents who had gathered on the school grounds on Monday and were incensed by the situation expressed their anger.

“WAEC exams is now free under Free Senior High School, BECE and WASSCE is free. I heard that a headmaster has taken money from some candidates. The headmaster might have extorted the parents of these people, I will meet WAEC on it.

“Also, the Ghana Education Service will deal with him, we will ask him why he took the money because we pay WAEC directly despite the economic challenges and nobody is supposed to pay. His matter is a very serious one,” the Education Minister said.
