Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Swedru in the Eastern Region, responded to those who claimed that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia must adhere to the party’s traditional succession order because he is a newcomer by comparing him to the Biblical Apostle Paul.
Even though Dr. Bawumia only formally joined the NPP in 2008, he had a significant impact, according to him. In the party, he goes by the name Paul.
Kennedy Osei Nyarko said, “Bawumia has been made a running mate four times over the last 16 years and has twice become vice president, yet you claim he is new.”
He was speaking to NPP delegates in the Akim Swedru constituency on August 10, 2023, to support the Vice President on his campaign tour of the Eastern Region.
“Did Paul arrive before the rest of you who are Christians? He arrived early, right? Even though Paul arrived later, he had a greater impact and influence. The Paul who arrived later but had more impact than everyone else is Bawumia,” he stated.
“I have had the opportunity to work for several party elders. I am well-versed in the NPP. If we consider what the NPP and current events in Ghana are, we are looking forward to it. I want to encourage everyone to go vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia based on my understanding of the Party and my assessment of the current situation,” Kennedy Osei Nyarko added.
Dr. Bawumia will compete against opponents like Alan Kyerematen, Kennedy Agyapong, Francis Addai-Nimoh, Kofi Konadu Apraku, and others for the position of NPP leader going into the 2024 elections.
Eugene Arhin, the director of communications for the presidency, has submitted his paperwork to run as the NPP parliamentary candidate in Awutu Senya West.
On August 9th, Arhin submitted his nomination at the party’s constituency office, receiving a sizable outpouring of support from fellow party members.
