In a heartbreaking turn of events, the North East Region of Ghana is grappling with the aftermath of heavy rains and a dam spillage that has decimated vital roadways.

Reports indicate that some roads have been entirely washed away, leaving communities stranded and isolated.

One of the affected areas is the community of Mimina, where an indigene with Western origins, Mr. William Haun, captured the extent of the damage through pictures and videos he shared online.

Haun highlighted the dire state of roads and bridges in locations like Mimina and the crucial Walewale-Nalerigu highway.

Attributing the flooding to the burst of the Gbani Dam, William Haun’s posts shed light on the severity of the situation.

Nalerigu, a town in the region, has been completely cut off following the dam burst, resulting in the destruction of the Walewale-Nalerigu highway.

This catastrophe leaves the region bracing for a challenging few months as the main paved route remains obliterated for the duration of the rainy season.

The recent onslaught of heavy rains has brought to the forefront the inadequacies in the construction of roads and bridges across the North East Region.

Images captured by Haun offer a glimpse of the devastation, as he documents the destruction around Mimina, where his journey was abruptly halted at Sagadugu due to impassable roads.
