It took the prompt action of the Tuobodom police to stop what would have been a bloody brawl between the local MP’s supporters and the DCE’s supporters over who has the right to replace a broken traffic light.

The Techiman North member of parliament, attorney Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, was in the district’s administrative center when contractors arrived with equipment to replace the broken traffic lights at her request. She promised to fix it during her 2020 campaign in order to decrease traffic accidents at the intersection in question, according to the locals.

To prevent the legislator from replacing the traffic light, Everson Addo-Donkor, the Chief Executive of the Techiman North District in the Bono region, issued an order to the police commander. This is because her government is not in charge.

This led to a confrontation between the supporters of the two politicians, with the MP’s supporters insisting that the contractor should proceed with the work and the DECE’s supporters objecting to it.

In the end, the police commander instructed the contractor to vacate the scene and leave his tools at the police station until the dispute was settled.

Many Tuobodom residents are outraged by the development and have vowed to see that the MP is able to keep her campaign promise to them, which would also put an end to the ongoing loss of life at the mentioned section of the busy road because there isn’t a traffic light.

Residents can be heard in a Joy News video questioning whether the DCE is acting in the best interests of the community or just local partisan interests.

In other news, Bryan Acheampong, the minister of agriculture, has taken action to clarify a divisive statement he made about the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) chances of becoming the next government several months ago.

It will never happen that we, the NPP, will stand on a platform to hand power to the NDC, Acheampong said in April of this year while addressing supporters at a gathering in Mpraeso.
