Former President Nana Akufo-Addo affectionately called ‘Addo Dee’ on Tuesday October 21, hosted all five flag-bearer aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to a unity breakfast meeting at his Nima residence in Accra.
An official statement issued from Nana Akufo Addo’s office said the meeting was to foster a spirit of camaraderie and unity ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for 31st January 2026.
The statement, signed by Fatimatu Abubakar, Spokesperson to Former President
Akufo-Addo, said the breakfast meeting with the aspirants was also meant to underscore the critical importance of a cohesive party for the 2028 general elections.
All five aspirants namely Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
were in attendance.
Also present at the meeting was the host himself, Nana Akufo-Addo. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders was present, Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman of the NPP was present, Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the NPP was present, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader and MP for Effutu was present and Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Former Chief of Staff was also present.
The statement signed by Fatimatu Abubakar said former President Akufo-Addo expressed his profound gratitude to the aspirants for taking time out of their busy campaign schedules to break bread with him. He stated that their presence was a testament to their shared commitment to the collective good and future prospects of the NPP.
The former President reminded the gathering that he has worked closely with each aspirant and holds them in high esteem, noting that their candidacies are based on merit and their significant contributions to the party and the nation. He encouraged them to conduct their campaigns in a healthy, issue-based manner that focuses on presenting their visions to the party delegates.
Former President Akufo-Addo emphasized that his primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process and to working towards a properly energized and rallied party, fully prepared to secure victory in the 2028 elections.
In a significant show of solidarity, each of the five aspirants gave their personal assurance, and that of their campaign teams, to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere. Furthermore, they expressed their commitment and that of their supporters, to rally behind the eventual winner and uphold the unity of the party after the primaries.
The former President thanked them for their positive engagement and urged the party leadership to ensure a credible and fair process to facilitate the unity of the party after their presidential primaries.
