Stephen Asamoah-Boateng alias Asabee, a former Minister and an elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has denied media reports that he had said former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wants an opportunity to apologise to Ghanaians following the Party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Asabee, on Saturday July 19, signed and issued an official press statement to deny ever making such a claim to any media house or any individual or group of persons anywhere.
Below is the statement in full:
“I Never Said That” – Stephen Asamoah-Boateng (Asabeee) Denies Claims of SayingH.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is Seeking Apology Opportunity
My attention has been drawn to a Joy News item titled “Akufo-Addo looking for an opportunity to apologise to Ghanaians – Asabeee”.
I, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, categorically deny making any such statement, and I wish to place on record that the attribution is entirely false and misleading
At no point during the interviews I granted on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in Kumasi, across four different radio stations, including Nhyira FM (a subsidiary of the Multimedia Group), did I make any statement suggesting that the former President, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is seeking an opportunity to apologise to Ghanaians.
For the avoidance of doubt, what I stated was that following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, the former President engaged with Ministers and other leaders and urged us all to take collective responsibility for the loss. I further noted that I have been part of discussions emphasising the need for leaders of our party to find conciliatory and reflective words to express to our grassroots members and sympathisers, as part of efforts to rebuild and reposition the party for future victory
In that context, I remarked that the upcoming extraordinary annual delegates’ conference presents an ideal opportunity for all party elders, including our two former Presidents, to be physically present to offer guidance and encouragement to the party faithful. My concern was why we couldn’t schedule the conference at a time that would allow for their participation
At no point did I say or imply that the former President desired an opportunity to issue an apology to Ghanaians. The headline and narrative presented by Joy News are, therefore, inaccurate and misrepresent my actual remarks
In light of this, I respectfully request that Joy News and its affiliated platforms that have published this inaccurate claim take immediate remedial action. This should include a retraction of the misleading headline and any associated content that contradicts what I have clearly articulated in this statement and in my media interviews in Kumasi.
Thank you.
