“I look forward, in my lifetime, to seeing a new Ghana; a Ghana where our sons and daughters would not line up for visa in any embassy to travel out of the shores of this country for greener pastures but that our sons and our daughters would be born, raised, schooled, educated and live and work and flourish and thrive within the borders of Ghana and would only travel outside for vacation and holidays but not to go and seek greener pastures”, Ghanaian charismatic-preacher of global fame, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams has prayed.
Archbishop Duncan-Williams said this when he was called upon to pray for the “nation’s leadership and national prosperity” during the international deionizational Christian service held to mark the first leg of Ghana’s official National Day of Prayers and Thanksgiving observed at the Forecourt of the State House on Tuesday July 1, 2025.
The Archbishop also prayed for the economy of the country and asked God for the strength of the country’s currency, the Cedi.
He prayed against both physical and supernatural attacks on the sovereignty of the nation and its leaders.
According to Duncan-Williams, he has a reason to believe President John Mahama was being prophetic in his decision to make Ghana’s Republic Day, which falls on July 1, be officially observed as a National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving.
Duncan-Williams explained: “I want to believe God that the President was very prophetic in declaring this day as a day of National Prayer and Thanksgiving because prophetically, being the first day of the seventh month of the year, I believe it is a prophetic proclamation that every vicious cycle that has held this nation back in the years gone by is over.
The cycle breaks in the name of Jesus and if you believe it, please put your hands together and shout yes
“As I reflected, I remembered that in the 50s and 70s Ghana was ahead of Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and even China, we were ahead of them and I started meditating and suddenly I asked why has the gold become dimed or dark, this state of retrogressing must be reversed under the leadership of President Mahama”, Duncan-Williams added.
The Archbishop who doubles as the Founder and Leader of the Action Chapel International Ministry, a mega thriving church with branches across the world, encouraged President Mahama to leave a lasting legacy before he leaves office in the next three years.
Duncan-Williams also noted: “Mr. President I know you don’t have too many years like Singapore had but Jesus fulfilled his mission in three years
“And the Bible said all things are possible to him that believe and that with God nothing shall be impossible and that as a Believer, it is also said that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
“So Mr. President, within three years, make a difference. Impact this world, change the narrative of Ghana. Let the Cedi thrive under your leadership. Let the Cedi flourish under your leadership, let things get better and better and better under your leadership like never before.”
Duncan-Williams suggested four key things he believed would be in Ghana’s interest in they are given priority
“Number one, it came to me that we need to develop strong love for God; love for God.
“Number two, love for country. Number three, love for people. Number four, we need a national development plan. We need a national development agenda, a national vision. China has a 100 years’ vision, India 100 years’ vision, Dubai 100 years’ vision.
“Ghana, our motherland, where is our vision, where is our agenda. I hope that under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama, a national agenda and a development plan would be established that compels all stake holders irrespective of your tribe, your religion, your background, your political party that you are compelled by the Constitution to follow that agenda that our money, cocoa, oil and all that we have our resources, gold would be challenged toward one common goal- the development of Ghana”, the Archbishop added.
The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving in an initiative of President John Mahama and this year’s is the debut. The President explained that the aim is to unite Ghanaians of all faiths and express gratitude to God for the nation’s abundant blessings.
The event was held under the theme “Reset, Reflect and Renew for National Prosperity” and started in the morning with a mega interdenominational Christian Service at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra.
In the afternoon, there was a Muslim Service at the Ghana National Mosque at Kanda, also in Accra.
Both Christian and Muslim prayer services were held across all the 16 Regions of the country and some of the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies simultaneously.
