The Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region is mourning the death of its newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Adam Muazu.
Family sources confirmed that Alhaji Muazu died in Accra after a long illness. He was sworn into office in April 2025 but had been unwell before his appointment.
Relatives say he had sought medical treatment in various hospitals across the country.
His death is another sad moment for the Lawra community, which is still recovering from the recent drowning of seven students from Lawra Senior High School in the Dikpe River.
Alhaji Muazu’s last public duty as MCE was to join the Upper West Regional Security Council on a visit to the school and the families of the victims to offer their condolences.
Before becoming MCE, Alhaji Muazu served as the first Propaganda Secretary, now known as Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lawra Constituency. He also led two successful parliamentary campaigns for the current MP, Bede A. Ziedeng.
Aside from politics, he was a teacher and businessman. He founded Superteck Digital Studios, a multimedia company in the region. He completed his secondary education in 1994 as part of the final batch of the old system at Wa Secondary School.
Alhaji Muazu was 53 years old. He is survived by three wives and seven children.
His body was flown to Lawra through Wa on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and will be buried according to Islamic tradition.
