The Minority Caucus in Parliament is demanding for urgent answers from the Ghana Medical and Dental Council (GMDC), about the true professional status of Ann Sansa Daly; the woman who is being accused of pretending to be a medical doctor.
Despite regularly giving medical advice on GHOne TV and presenting herself as a certified doctor on a show called “Health and Life with Dr. Daly” last year, which gained massive views on YouTube, she is now being accused of holding no valid license to practice medicine, either in Ghana or the United States.
In an official letter addressed to the GMDC on May 30th, 2025, the Minority has given the Council just one week to confirm whether Daly is legally registered and licensed to practice medicine in Ghana.
“I write to formally request information regarding the medical registration status of one Dr. Ann Sansa Daly, who has recently come to public attention due to her appearance on health-related television programs in Ghana, particularly on GHOne TV.
I will need a response from you within one week upon receipt of this letter”, the letter read.
Signed by Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Health Committee, the Minority’s letter requests that the GMDC engage with U.S. medical licensing authorities to determine if Daly is listed on any official medical registry.
The Minority wants clear answers to three important questions: “If Dr. Ann Sansa Daly is currently registered and licensed by the GMDC to practice medicine in Ghana?
If Dr. Ann Sansa Daly has ever been registered with the GMDC in any capacity (e.g., temporary or permanent registration)?
If it is within the GMDC’s regulations for an individual not registered with the Council to present themselves publicly as a medical doctor or offer medical advice on public platforms within Ghana?
Clarification within a week on receipt of this letter by your sister entity in the USA responsible for registration of Medical Doctors on the status of Ann Sansa Daly on their register.”
The Minority added that, “This request is being made in the public interest to ensure that individuals offering health-related services or advice to the Ghanaian public meet the appropriate legal and professional standards as established by the Council”.
The drama began when President Mahama, on May 23, 2025, revoked Daly’s appointment to the NHIA Board just four days after naming her to the position in a letter dated May 19.
The President quickly replaced her with Professor Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke, Vice President of the Ghana Medical Association. A letter from the Office of the President directed authorities to ensure Professor Yorke is sworn in immediately.
Although the President’s office did not officially state the reason for Daly’s removal, sources say public outcry over her professional background led to the decision. Many health professionals had questioned her qualifications and whether she should hold such an influential role in a major health institution.
Prof. Yorke is well known in the medical community and widely considered a fitting and credible choice for the NHIA board.
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Board plays a key role in managing and shaping policies for Ghana’s national health insurance scheme, which serves millions across the country.
In a related development, the Ministry of Health denied reports suggesting Daly was sworn in during a May 27 ceremony.
A press release signed by spokesperson Tony Goodman described such claims, first published on Graphic Online, as “inaccurate and misleading.” The Ministry confirmed Daly was never sworn in and that her appointment had already been revoked by that date.
“The Ministry wishes to categorically deny the allegations contained in the said publication, it is important to clarify that Ms. Daly was not sworn in on the 27th of May”, the statement read
The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and due process in all public appointments.
As pressure mounts, all eyes are now on the Ghana Medical and Dental Council. The Council has been given until early June to respond to the Minority’s request.
