A man who works as a caretaker near the Tema Main Harbour, has had his head cut off from his neck. He is believed to be in his 50s and on Friday, May 30, 2025, the Tema Regional Police Command arrested two suspects in connection with the shocking murder.

The arrest happened after police received a distress call on Friday, May 30, 2025, about a lifeless body discovered in the harbour area. When officers arrived at the scene to begin investigations, they received additional information that shocked even the most experienced among them — a man had been caught allegedly carrying a human head.

The suspect, identified as Ali Mustapha, was rescued from an angry crowd by the police. According to reports, he had placed the human head in a carrier bag and was moving around the area. Police say he later led them to the body of the victim, which was lying at the Tema Main Harbour Railways vicinity.

Further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Zakaria Mohammed.

In a statement from the police on Sunday, June 1, 2025, confirmed that both suspects are currently in custody. The body of the deceased, believed to be in his mid-50s, has been sent to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy. His identity is yet to be confirmed.

“The arrest followed a distress call received by the police on 30th May 2025, reporting the discovery of a lifeless male body within the harbour area. While investigating the scene, police received further information that a man had been arrested by some members of the public for allegedly carrying a human head.

The police swiftly proceeded to the second location and rescued the suspect, who was identified as Ali Mustapha. He was subsequently taken into custody. Further investigations led to the arrest of a second suspect, Zakaria Mohammed.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy,” the statement read.

According to reports, eyewitnesses in the area said the victim worked as a caretaker in a nearby yard.

Some squatters described the scene as horrifying and said they were still in shock. One resident, Isaac Adjei, told reporters that Ali was once a cargo carrier at the harbour but had been showing signs of mental instability for the past two and a half years.

“He used to carry goods for trucks, but these days, he talks to himself and behaves strangely,” Mr Adjei said.

So far, the motive behind the murder remains unknown. The police have assured the public that they are working hard to uncover the full truth.

This gruesome act has left many in the harbour community terrified, raising concerns about mental health and security in the area. The police are calling on the public to assist with any information that could help with the ongoing investigation.
