In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, officers of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) have arrested a suspected drug baron believed to be the mastermind behind a sprawling narcotics network operating from Kuntunse Spirit Filling Station, a suburb on the outskirts of Accra.

The suspect, identified as Geoffrey Agbi, was picked up in the late hours of Friday, May 30, at around 6:20pm during a carefully coordinated operation by NACOC operatives, backed by other personnel.

According to sources within NACOC, Agbi had been under surveillance for weeks following intelligence reports linking him to a series of illicit drug operation in the Amasaman neighborhood.

During the raid, officers retrieved several packages suspected to contain cocaine and methamphetamine, industrial sealing machines, foreign currencies, and multiple passports bearing different names but all carrying the suspect’s photograph.

The suspect is currently in NACOC custody and assisting with investigations. He is expected to be arraigned before court anytime soon on multiple charges including possession, trafficking, and conspiracy to export narcotic substances.

Meanwhile, NACOC has reiterated its commitment to clamping down on the drug trade and called on the public to volunteer information that could lead to further arrests.

“Several substances suspected to be illicit drugs were found and retrieved from his office. We will not rest, Ghana will not be used as a corridor for drug traffickers. We are watching, and we are ready” statement from NACOC detailed.

    Background

The arrest comes after an initial NACOC operation on April 14, 2025, at around 10:00 p.m., during which officers raided four chain establishments located on the Spirit Filling Station property: a pub, boutique, salon, and gym.

Elvis Owusu Yeboah and Joseph Godsway, both gym instructors, located in the Amasaman Municipality, were among the five suspects detained during that operation. Godsway is a citizen of Nigeria.

The suspected ringleader of the illegal drug network and gym owner, Geoffrey Agbi, escaped at the time and was later added to NACOC’s wanted list.

Further surveillance revealed that Agbi had resumed activities at the gym and had recruited new personnel to continue the suspected drug operations. His eventual arrest marks a significant step in dismantling what authorities describe as an entrenched local drug network.

Investigations are ongoing, and NACOC says it will continue efforts to identify and apprehend all individuals linked to the operation.
