Joseph Kobina Ade Coker, a former chairman of the Greater Accra Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has passed away.

The tragic news spread across social media, stating that he died on the morning of Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness, according to close sources.

Although the cause of death has not been officially announced, party insiders say he had been unwell for a brief period before his passing.

Ade Coker became the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC in 2009 and served three consecutive terms in the position. He was widely respected within the party for his firm leadership and outspoken nature on political matters.

He remained in office until 2022, when he lost his bid for re-election to Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, who is the current chairman.

Aside from politics, Mr. Coker also contributed significantly to sports in Ghana. He once served as Vice Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), where he brought his leadership and administrative skills to the world of football.

Many within the NDC and the wider political and sports communities have described his death as a great loss. He was known for connecting with the grassroots of the party and speaking boldly on national issues.

His death marks the end of a notable chapter in Ghana’s political and sports administration history. Tributes have already begun pouring in from party members and sports enthusiasts, who remember him for his dedication and service.

Details about funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
