A mobile money (MoMo) vendor named Christopher Ahordo was shot dead by armed robbers at Gbagblakope near the Diamond Cement Factory in Aflao, located in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region.
Christopher, popularly known as Colombo, was attacked around 6:15 p.m. on Monday evening, April 28th, 2025 by two masked men dressed in long robes and armed with pump-action guns.
The victim had extended his working hours past his usual 5:00 p.m. closing time, the reasons remain unknown.
According to Sylvia Awuye, a Ketu South-based journalist with Holy FM, Colombo was preparing to close for the day when the robbers approached him.
They reportedly took a bag believed to contain cash, and as they fled, one of them shot Colombo in the chest. He died on the spot.
Eyewitnesses said they were unable to help due to the robbers firing indiscriminately while escaping into a nearby bush. The community later retrieved Colombo’s body and sent it to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital mortuary.
The incident has been reported to the municipal police, who have launched an investigation. So far, no arrests have been made.
This tragedy adds to the growing number of violent MoMo-related robberies in Ghana. This year alone, several fatal incidents have been reported in the Ashanti Region, raising concerns about the safety of mobile money vendors.
Residents in Aflao are shaken, calling for tighter security and police presence, especially in vulnerable business areas. As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of a man known for his dedication and hard work.
