As high as fifty six (56) percent of Ghanaian adults  from the ages of 26 to 35 have said they would fully support a military takeover of Government an overthrow of the Constitution if democratically elected political leaders continue to fail on their mandate and abuse their office, the 2024 Afrobarometer Report has revealed.

The Report also revealed that when fifty-two (52) percent of Ghanaian youth in the age range of 18 to 25 years also  endorse a military takeover under the same circumstances.

The disturbing report is a wakeup call to the increasing disillusionment among Ghanaians and the loss of confidence in democratically elected regimes as only 47 percent of the total respondents were opposed to a military take over.

The survey was conducted by the Centre for Democratic Development-Ghana (CDD-Ghana) and the findings shared at a regional dissemination event in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

On the gender demographics, 53 percent  of men and 48 percent of women endorsed a military coup if democratic governments continue to fail.

The dissemination event was coordinated by CDD-Ghana in collaboration with the Centre for Community Livelihood Development. It was supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the Participation, Accountability, Integrity for Resilient Democracy (PAIReD) initiative.
