A final-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, was found dead near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre in the early hours of Thursday February 27, 2025.

Confirming the tragic event, KNUST management issued a press release stating that her lifeless body was discovered at approximately 5:00 a.m., prompting an immediate response from KNUST Security Services. She was then transported to the University Health Services, where medical personnel confirmed her passing.

Reports indicate that eyewitnesses suggest Miss Yabani, the final-year Biological Sciences student, may have been attacked while returning from night studies, as the university is currently in the middle of its mid-semester examinations. Her bag and other belongings were found ransacked beside her, raising suspicions of a possible robbery.

On the flip side, a comprehensive investigation has been launched in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and the University Health Services to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. Authorities are working to uncover the exact details of the incident, while students are being urged to remain vigilant.

The discovery of her body has sent shockwaves across the university community, with students expressing concerns over security on campus.

The university has since informed Miss Yabani’s family and extended its deepest condolences to them during this difficult time.

In light of the tragedy, KNUST management has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff. The administration has urged the university community and the public to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family.
