You came with Kalyppo; we’ll sack you with ‘brown water’ – Senyo Hosi to Akufo-Addo

Convener of the One Ghana Movement, Senyo Hosi, has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure that he leaves behind a positive legacy, particularly concerning the fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, Mr Hosi expressed his disappointment with the president’s leadership in addressing the destructive impact of galamsey on the environment.

Drawing from the symbolism of the popular “Kalyppo” moment during Akufo-Addo’s 2016 campaign, Mr Hosi questioned the president’s commitment to preserving the environment.

“I don’t think Nana Addo wants this to be his legacy. He should get this very clear. Nana, you came with Kalyppo—when you were coming, you were drinking Kalyppo, and we were voting for you. We will be sacking you with brown water because that is the future you want for my children. It is wickedness,” he fumed.

Mr Hosi also expressed disappointment with the decision of organized labour to call off their planned industrial action, stressing the need for collective action in fighting galamsey.

“It is unfortunate that they don’t seem as organized as they should be at this time. The environment is not being destroyed for the good or bad of one particular group of people—it is being destroyed for all of us,” he lamented.

However, he commended the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) for their decision to continue the strike in protest against the environmental damage caused by illegal mining.

He further urged Ghanaians to show solidarity by wearing red in protest of galamsey.

Additionally, Mr Hosi refuted claims made by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Jinapor, that he drinks tap water, calling those assertions false.
