Benjamin David Simmons was born on July 20, 1996, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He is the son of Dave Simmons, an American-born former professional basketball player who played in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL), and Julie Simmons, an Australian. Ben has five siblings, including his sister Olivia, who played college basketball at Arizona State University.
Growing up in a sports-oriented family, Simmons was introduced to basketball at a young age. He attended Box Hill Senior Secondary College in Melbourne, where he excelled in basketball.
