    Biography

    Sebastian Michael Maniscalco was born on July 8, 1973, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He is the son of Italian immigrants; his father, Salvatore Maniscalco, worked as a hairstylist, and his mother, Rose Maniscalco, was a secretary. His father’s family immigrated from Cefalù, Sicily, when Salvatore was 15 years old1. Raised in a Roman Catholic household, Sebastian also served as an altar boy at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Mount Prospect, Illinois1.

    Education

    Maniscalco attended Rolling Meadows High School and later graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1995 with a degree in communication studies. During his time at university, he was the president of the Sigma Pi fraternity chapter1.

    Early Career

    In 1998, Maniscalco moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in comedy. He started performing at open mics in bars and bowling alleys also while working as a waiter at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, a job he held from 1998 to 20051. His big break came in 2005 when he began performing regularly at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood1.

    Rise to Fame

    Maniscalco’s comedy career took off with his unique style of physical comedy and observational humor. He cites Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin, Brian Regan, John Ritter, Johnny Carson, Andrew Dice Clay, Bill Burr, and also Don Rickles as his comedic influences1. He gained wider recognition through his specials on Comedy Central and Showtime, also including “Sebastian Live” (2009), “What’s Wrong with People?” (2012), “Aren’t You Embarrassed?” (2014), and “Why Would You Do That?” (2016)1.

    Acting Career

    In addition to his stand-up comedy, Maniscalco has made a mark in the film industry. He appeared in the Academy Award-winning film “Green Book” (2018) and also played mobster Joe Gallo in Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” (2019)1. He also co-wrote and co-starred in the 2023 film “About My Father,” also where Robert De Niro played the role of his father1. Maniscalco has also lent his voice to animated films such as “The Nut Job 2” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” (2023)1.
