A court in Accra, last Friday September 13, remanded into Police custody, Mohammed Ibrahim – the man who  introduced himself as ‘Commander Kanawu’, the NDC Revolution Commander  and threatened to shoot to kill some public officials. He remains in custody until September 26.

The Ghana Police Service  on September 11, arrested Mohammed Ibrahim after he publicly threatened  to shoot to kill and harm some public officials.

The suspect, was declared wanted on 9th September, 2024 after the video in which he was seen issuing the threats went viral.

Commander Kanawu, in the said viral video, said he swore  by his late father’s corpse and also by the God he serves that he and his men would shoot to kill Interior Minister Henry Quartey, the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso Central Constituency ahead of the December general elections.

“Henry Quartey, the Interior Minister, be careful.  I am warning you strong warning; you are huge and when the fight starts, we would shoot you in the stomach and kill you’, the Revolution Commander who is reported to go by the name Ibrahim Mohammed noted.

Commander Kanawu issued some more threats: “The IGP must respect himself; the uniform, cap and boots he wears are paid for with my tax. How can he recruit fake people? You and the Interior Minister, Henry Quartey, I swear by God, Walahitalai, we would kill you live. We know your house at Alajo and we are telling you to be steady because Ghana is not for someone’s father. I Swear by my father’s dead body, NDC is the Revolution Party and we said we want democracy so we came to democracy but now that they want to show us,  this 2024 is all die be die.”

Commander Kanewu’s threats to kill were recorded on a video now gone viral, and has prompted the Ghana Police Service to declare him wanted with a bounty of GHC50, 000 on his head.

Commander Kanewu, in the said video, issued threats against other persons such as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jene Adukwei Mensa and Deputy Chairman of the EC, Bossman Asare.

The video captured the now declared wanted Commander Kanewu bragging that he does not mind being arrested.

“This 2024, fire is coming to this country. I swear by Allah if you like, come and arrest me. I am Commander Kanawu, the Revolution Party, NDC, no baggawire.  I swear by Allah.

“The NDC is now up and standing we have men. It is not that we do not have men. There is no body, the Commander in Chief, Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice, they cannot do anything in this country. I swear to God, Walahi.  Talahi, eye zu, eye za, Revolution…” Kanawu said and went on to make rather insightful allegations against the police hierarchy

Police investigations  into the threats are ongoing
