    Biography

    Drew Allison Carey was born on May 23, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio. He is the youngest of three brothers. His father, Lewis Carey, died of a heart attack when Drew was eight years old, which had a profound impact on his early life. Raised by his mother, Beulah Carey, Drew grew up in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood of Cleveland.

    Education

    Carey attended James Ford Rhodes High School, where he graduated in 1975. He then went on to Kent State University (KSU), but his academic journey was tumultuous. He was expelled twice for poor academic performance and eventually left KSU without a degree.

    Military Service

    In 1980, Carey enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He served for six years, during which he developed his signature crew cut hairstyle and horn-rimmed glasses. His time in the Marines instilled in him a sense of discipline and resilience that would later benefit his career in entertainment.

    Early Career

    After leaving the Marines, Carey began his career in stand-up comedy. He performed at various comedy clubs and gained recognition for his relatable humor and quick wit. This exposure led to appearances on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” and “Late Night with David Letterman.”
