The Ablekuma West Constituency was electrified on Monday, August 26, 2024 with passionate evidence of political unity as flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Member of Parliament for the Constituency who also doubles as Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful took the stage and urged supporters and constituents to “reject second-hand President Mahama” and reaffirm their commitment to the NPP.

“Vote for my party NPP. Vote for vision, vote for a passionate President, not a second-hand President like Mahama who wants a comeback. I stand for the youth, I stand for the old people, I stand for everyone so vote for me and get improvement, not someone who is desperate for another term. I mean someone who has been rejected two times shouldn’t be given another chance to comeback” Vice President told the crowd during a visit to the Ablekuma West Constituency.

He listed a number of policies which failed under the government of former President John Mahama including the cancellation of the nurses and teacher training allowances, lack of chalk for schools, collapse of the NHIS, and said under the current government, the training allowances had been restored, reason he believes Ablekuma West Constituents and all Ghanaians should reject John Mahama come December 7, 2024.

    Continuation

Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful on her part urged the crowd and constituents to give Bawumia and herself another chance and opportunity to serve them as President and their representative in Parliament to continue the good works done and achieved over the period under the NPP administration.

“We will also need your help to ensure that victory is achieved for all of us, including the NPP, Dr. Bawumia, and myself, so that we can continue the progressive work we have already started for the country, which you can all attest to. By God’s grace, on December 7, 2024, we hope you will support us to make history and break the 8-year cycle, allowing Dr. Bawumia to continue Nana Akufo-Addo’s work.

“Your brother and myself are here to seek your assistance. He does not take your strength and support for granted but aims to use it effectively for all of us. Nana Akufo-Addo has made significant progress, but there is still work to be done. Dr. Bawumia is here to continue the unfinished tasks left by Nana Akufo-Addo. We are seeking your support to consolidate these efforts and make history in our country for our children and their children to benefit as well.”

She continued, “You’ve always been with us in all our going out and coming, you have blessed us and you have washed us with prayers, supported us and you have assured us that you have prayed for us so we will be the head and not the tail. And that has been my portion in this constituency and I am grateful for that. When we notified you that the Vice President and by God’s grace the incoming president of Ghana wanted to meet with you, you didn’t hesitate despite the various time changes, you have come in number to show that you appreciate the work that we are doing, you continue to support us in prayer. All I ask is that as you have done for me in this constituency, you do same for Mahamudu Bawumia. We pray that you continue to support us in prayer, you continue to counsel us, and we will also take heed in your counsel.”

    Event

The gathering, which drew thousands of people dressed in NPP uniforms and waved flags, was a part of the Combined Community Connect initiative, which aims to engage voters ahead of the general election in 2024.

Stakeholder engagement at Dansoman Nasrawa kicked off the day’s events, which also included a courtesy call to traditional leaders and the clergy at the Nii Sempe W3 Palace, meet-and-greet at Dansoman Last Stop, and a closing show at Tony’s Park.

Among the team accompanying the Vice-President were the National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ayensu Ntim, the Campaign Manager, Fred Opare Ansah, a member of the NPP, Kwadwo Nsafoa Poku, the NPP parliamentary aspirant for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, the Parliamentary aspirant for Weija Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, a former General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong, among others.
