To further his golfing career, Hideki transferred to Meitoku Gijuku Junior & Senior High School in Kochi Prefecture during his eighth grade. He later attended Tohoku Fukushi University in Sendai, where he continued to excel in golf while pursuing his education.

    Amateur Career

    In 2010, he won the Asian Amateur Championship, which earned him an invitation to the 2011 Masters Tournament. At the Masters, he was the leading amateur, finishing tied for 27th place. He repeated his success at the Asian Amateur Championship in 2011, securing another invitation to the Masters. Matsuyama also represented Japan in various international competitions, including the World Amateur Team Championship, where he helped his team achieve notable finishes.

    Turning Professional

    In April 2013, Matsuyama turned professional and quickly made an impact on the Japan Golf Tour. He won his first professional tournament, the Tsuruya Open, in just his second start. By the end of 2013, he had secured four Japan Golf Tour victories and also finished first on the tour’s money list. His early success in Japan set the stage for his transition to the PGA Tour.

    PGA Tour Career

    Matsuyama joined the PGA Tour in 2014 and continued to build on his impressive resume. He earned his first PGA Tour win at the 2014 Memorial Tournament, also becoming the fourth Japanese player to win on the tour.
