6 Men Rape Pregnant Woman in Presence of Husband

Residents of East Mamprusi have been left outraged following the gang-rape of a seven-month pregnant woman by six armed men on the deteriorating Gambaga-Dagbriboari road in the North East Region.

The attack took place while the woman and her husband were returning from a medical check-up in Nalerigu. The couple was ambushed by the assailants, who brutally assaulted the woman, beat her husband, and stole their motorbike and phones.

According to Joy News’ correspondent EliasuTanko, the victim’s grandfather reported that the pregnant woman suffered severe complications due to the assault and had to be rushed back to the hospital that same night.

It was explained by the grandfather that the couple had been severely brutalized before their belongings were taken.

“The robbers were six in number and well-armed,” the grandfather stated, adding that many other residents of the community have also fallen victim to similar attacks, losing their possessions to these assailants.

The increase in violent incidents in the area has been attributed by the grandfather to the poor condition of the road and the government’s chronic failure to address the issue.

He lamented that years of neglect of the roads have resulted in a series of calamities for the residents, causing them to question whether they are even considered part of Ghana.

The victim, who could not be interviewed directly by Joy News for cultural and personal security reasons, expressed her distress off-camera, offering a prayer for her recovery and appealing for the immediate repair of the roads.

Despite the severity of the attack, no action has yet been taken by the police, and no arrests have been made.

Residents have voiced their frustration, noting that the police have not visited the community since the incident, even though the attack was reported to the authorities, including the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.

This lack of response has further heightened concerns about the safety and security of the residents.

Speaking to Joy News on Tuesday, August 20, the MP for Nalerigu, Issifu Seidu, expressed his concern over the worsening security situation in his constituency.

He noted that such incidents are becoming increasingly common due to the poor condition of the roads, which have made it easier for criminals to carry out their activities.

In an effort to address the issue, the MP has arranged for construction equipment to be brought in to reshape the roads.

“As a Member of Parliament, I have a voice on the floor of Parliament. I think what I have to do is to make a statement on the floor of Parliament so that we can get the Interior Minister to come in and respond to some practical steps they have taken to mitigate the situation,” he acknowledged.
