Personal Life
Joseph Robinette “Beau” Biden III was born on February 3, 1969, in Wilmington, Delaware. He was the eldest son of Joe Biden and his first wife, Neilia Hunter Biden. Tragically, when Beau was just three years old, he was involved in a car accident that killed his mother and younger sister.
Early Life and Education:
Despite this early tragedy, Beau grew up in a close-knit family, with his father Joe Biden remarrying Jill Tracy Jacobs in 1977. Beau attended Archmere Academy, the same private Catholic school his father had attended. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991, where he was also a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Beau pursued a law degree at Syracuse University College of Law, graduating in 1994. During his time at Syracuse, he served as president of the Student Bar Association.
Early Career:
After law school, Beau clerked for Judge Steven McAuliffe of the United States District Court of New Hampshire. From 1995 to 2004, he worked at the United States Department of Justice in Philadelphia, first as a Counsel to the Office of Policy Development and later as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Military Service:
In 2003, Beau joined the Delaware Army National Guard as a member of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. He attained the rank of Major in the JAG Corps. And was a part of the 261st Signal Brigade. In 2008, his unit was activated for deployment to Iraq, and he also served there for a year, earning a Bronze Star for his service.
Political Career:
Beau’s political career began in 2006 when he was elected Attorney General of Delaware. In this role, he focused on protecting children from sexual predators and combating domestic violence.
During his tenure as Attorney General. Beau gained national attention for his work on a number of high-profile cases.
Personal Life:
Beau married Hallie Olivere in 2002, and they had two children together: Natalie and Robert Hunter Biden II.
Health Challenges
In 2010, Beau suffered a mild stroke. In 2013, he was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent successful treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. However, his cancer returned in 2015, and he passed away on May 30, 2015, at the age of 46.
