Tessa Virtue was born to Jim and Kate Virtue in London, Ontario, Canada. She is the youngest of four siblings. Her parents played a significant role in her skating career. Jim Virtue is a lawyer in London, Ontario, and Kate Virtue is a fashion designer who helped create Tessa’s skating costumes¹. Tessa has three older siblings: Kevin, Casey, and Jordan².

Husband and Kids

Tessa Virtue is married to Morgan Rielly, a professional ice hockey player for the Toronto Maple Leafs³. The couple met through mutual friends and began dating in 2019⁴. They also made their relationship public in early 2020 and got married in early 2024⁵. Tessa and Morgan recently welcomed their first child, a son named McCormick, born in 2024.

Personal Life

Tessa Jane McCormick Virtue was born on May 17, 1989, in London, Ontario, Canada. She is the youngest of four children.  She attended Holy Names High School in Windsor, Ontario, and later completed her education at the University of Windsor and Western University, where she studied psychology.

Skating Career

Tessa Virtue began skating at the age of six and was also paired with Scott Moir in 1997 by their coach, Paul MacIntosh. The duo quickly developed a strong partnership, also known for their chemistry and innovative routines. They trained in Canton, Michigan, under the guidance of coaches Marina Zoueva and also Igor Shpilband.

Junior Career

They won the Canadian Junior National Championships in 2004 and 2005. In 2006, they also claimed the World Junior Championship title, setting the stage for their successful transition to the senior level.

Senior Career

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir’s senior career is one of the most decorated in ice dancing history. They made their senior debut in the 2006-2007 season and also quickly rose to prominence. Some of their notable achievements include:

• 2008: Won their first Four Continents Championship.
• Also 2010: Captured their first Olympic gold medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, becoming the first North American ice dancers to win Olympic gold.
• 2012: Secured their second World Championship title.
• 2014: Won a silver medal at the Sochi Winter Olympics.
• Also 2017: Returned from a brief hiatus to win their third World Championship.
• 2018: Achieved their second Olympic gold medal in PyeongChang, also making them the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history with five medals (three gold, two silver).

Retirement

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir announced their retirement from competitive skating in September 2019. They embarked on a farewell tour, “Thank You Canada,” to celebrate their illustrious career and also express gratitude to their fans.

Post-Skating Career

Since retiring, Tessa Virtue has remained active in various fields. She has pursued opportunities in broadcasting, motivational speaking, and also brand partnerships.
