Chad Kelly was born on March 26, 1994, in Buffalo, New York, U.S. His parents are Charlene Cudzylo and Kevin Kelly. Kevin Kelly is the younger brother of the legendary Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly. Growing up in Western New York, Chad was surrounded by football from an early age due to his uncle’s illustrious career. Chad Kelly attended St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in Tonawanda, New York. In high school, he excelled as a quarterback, passing for impressive yards and touchdowns. His family ties to football, especially his uncle, Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, influenced his passion for the game. Kelly played college football at Clemson University and later transferred to Ole Miss (University of Mississippi). His time at Ole Miss was marked by impressive performances, including being named Sugar Bowl MVP in 2016.
In 2014, Chad dropped down to the junior college level, spending one season at East Mississippi Community College. He started 12 games for the Lions and helped lead them to the NJCAA National championship.
