Shelton’s passion for tennis was ignited at a young age, thanks to his tennis-centric family. Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, he was surrounded by tennis legends: his father, Bryan Shelton, a former professional player and coach, and his mother, Lisa Witsken Shelton, a highly-ranked junior player. His uncle, Todd Witsken, also contributed to the family’s tennis legacy. With such a lineage, it’s no wonder that Shelton developed a love for the sport. Shelton continued his tennis journey at the University of Florida, playing for the Florida Gators. Also as a true freshman in 2021, he etched his name in Gators’ history by clinching their first team national championship with a victory at fifth singles.
Career
In 2022, he further solidified his reputation by winning the men’s singles title at the NCAA Division I Tennis Championships. His outstanding performance earned him the ITA National Player of the Year award. Shelton made his ATP Tour debut in July 2022 at the Atlanta Open, where he also defeated Ramkumar Ramanathan. This marked a significant milestone in his professional career. Later that year, he reached the third round of the Cincinnati Masters, showcasing his talent against top-ranked opponents.
