Her parents, Jorge Fernandez (a tennis coach and former soccer player) and also Irene Fernandez (née Exevea), played a significant role in shaping her athletic journey. Leylah’s younger sister, Bianca Jolie Fernandez, is also a tennis player, and her older sister is named Jodeci Fernandez.
She also clinched her first professional doubles title alongside Rebecca Marino. Fernandez achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 13 in August 2022. Her best doubles ranking is No. 17, also achieved in October 2023.
