In 2007, Chestnut gained widespread recognition by winning the 92nd Annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. He defeated the six-time champion, Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi, setting a world record by consuming 66 hot dogs and buns in just 12 minutes.
This victory marked the start of his dominance in the competitive eating scene. Chestnut continued to participate in and win numerous eating competitions, also solidifying his status as a competitive eating legend. His rivalry with Kobayashi became legendary, with both athletes pushing the limits of human consumption.
