Personal Life
Chris Tanev was born on December 20, 1989, in East York, Ontario, Canada. He began his hockey journey at a young age, also honing his skills in local leagues and junior teams. Tanev’s commitment to the sport and his defensive prowess caught the attention of scouts and coaches. Tanev also played college hockey for the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers. His standout performances also led to an opportunity with the Vancouver Canucks organization.
In the 2010-2011 season, he made his NHL debut with the Canucks, showcasing his defensive reliability. Tanev is known for his shot-blocking abilities and also disciplined defensive play. His positioning, stick work, and ability to disrupt opponents’ scoring chances have made him a valuable asset on the blue line. Despite not being a prolific scorer, Tanev’s contributions often go beyond the stat sheet. After several seasons with the Canucks, Tanev joined the Calgary Flames in 2020. In 2021, he signed with the Dallas Stars, where he also continues to be a reliable defenseman. Tanev comes from a Macedonian descent family.
