THE POLICE in Kumasi are on the heels of some suspects, presumably teenagers, who infamously hit the head of a policeman with a stone to injure him.

“Some suspects have been identified by the police and they would surely be arrested to assist in investigations”, a police document has disclosed.

The police described the injured policeman as G/Const. Boakye Bismark of SWAT Unit Ashanti Region, adding that he got injured in the line of duty.

According to the police statement, some policemen tried to stop two students groups from fighting at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and one of them got injured.

“On 11/06/2024, at 0800hrs Schools and Colleges Federation-Ashanti started a 3-day 2024 Girls Soccer Final at Baba Yara Sports Stadium/Kumasi.

“In the course of the games, a fight ensued between armed forces SHS and Islamic SHS. Policemen on duty proceeded to the scene to restore peace.

“The students threw stones at the police and in the process, No. 63805 G/Const. Boakye Bismark of swat unit /ash sustained a head injury”, the report said.

The injured policeman, it said, “was rushed to a stadium ambulance station and he was later conveyed to Opoku Transport Hospital/Asokwa, where he was treated and discharged the same day”.
