Ghana’s Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, affectionately nicknamed ‘Bawupeezy’  by Gen Zee folks, has told a Ghanaian audience in London that he has performed outstandingly well as a Vice President therefore he should be ‘promoted’ to become the substantive President  come the December general elections.

“Most people say I have been the most impactful Vice President in the history of Ghana, and that is based on my performance. If you look at the policies I have initiated and championed in the last 8 years, you can count 33 policies.

“Can you think of one policy, just one policy that John Mahama has initiated? So, the score between Bawumia and Mahama is 33 for Bawumia and Zero for Mahama”, Dr. Bawumia noted in his address at a fundraising dinner jointly organized by the Young Executives Forum (YEF) and the UK Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)

The well attended event took place at the Landmark London Hotel and aim was to raise money among members of the NPP-UK to support the 2024 presidential campaign of Dr Bawumia.

The Vice President noted further: “So, when it comes to the work of a Vice President, I have passed the exams, so I should be promoted as president of the Republic of Ghana. I should be promoted, and I want you to promote me”

The Saturday address in London was not the first time Dr. Bawumia is touting himself as a Vice President who initiated 33 innovative policies to make the country a better place.

Speaking in Kumasi during a recent tour of the Ashanti Region, the Vice President had made the same claim and explained it:

“If you look at the work I have done as Vice President, which is the basis for which I want you to vote for me as President, I can count about 33 policy initiatives.

“There is digitalization, one constituency – one ambulance is also there, Agenda 111 is also there. So many different policies. All these policies are working well. If you take all the Vice Presidents Ghana has had, you won’t get a Vice President who has worked more than Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,” he noted.

Asaase Radio’s Wilberforce Asare reports that the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Koduah, was at the London fundraising event and he expressed gratitude to the UK branch of the Party and the YEF for putting the programme together.

The report said Justin Frimpong Koduah  noted that the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections are crucial for the development of the country because the NPP has a candidate who is qualified to run for two terms compared with the NDC candidate who can only serve in office for just for one term in the unlikely event that he is elected as president.

“The question is, between a candidate who can run for two terms (8 years) and one who can only run for one term (4 years), who should be given the chance to be president. If we choose Dr Bawumia, he will be forced to deliver because he will have the opportunity to come back to Ghanaians after four years to ask them to renew his mandate,” Justin Frimpong Koduah said.

“The NDC candidate, on the other hand, will not be coming back to Ghanaians to renew his mandate so he will not be accountable. I urge you all to let your friends and family members back home in Ghana know that there are challenges and that these challenges are global. But with the visionary leader, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as president, Ghana will get to the promised land,” he added.
