Personal Life
Paul Maurice was born on January 30, 1967, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. He is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player.
Currently, he serves as the head coach for the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League (NHL). At age 43, Maurice became the youngest coach in NHL history to reach 1,000 games as a coach, achieving this milestone on November 28, 2010. He also holds the record for the most losses by an NHL coach, with 713. Maurice has coached sevalso eral NHL teams, also including the Hartford Whalers, Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Winnipeg Jets. Maurice also began his playing career with the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Unfortunately, an eye injury forced him to retire in 1987.
He played as a defenseman and was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. Paul Maurice is married to Michelle Ann Maurice, also born on November 11, 1965. They have three children: Sydney, Luke, and also Jake. Sydney follows her father’s hockey legacy, playing for the Manitoba Women’s Junior Team. Luke is also a student at St. Paul High School.
