Born on February 10, 1997, in Evansville, Indiana, Lilly King discovered her love for swimming at an early age. Her parents, Mark (a track and cross-country athlete) and Ginny (a swimmer), also recognized her potential and encouraged her to pursue the sport. Lilly attended Indiana University Bloomington, where she honed her skills under top coaches. During her college years, she achieved remarkable feats: NCAA Champion in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.
Named Big Ten Swimmer of the Year and Big Ten Freshman of the Year. The pinnacle of her career came at the 2016 Summer Olympics: She also clinched gold medals in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 4×100 meter medley relay (where she swam the breaststroke leg). In the 2020 Summer Olympics: She secured a silver medal in the 4×100 meter medley relay (prelims). Another silver in the 200-meter breaststroke.
