Flick played as a midfielder during his professional career. He played 104 matches for Bayern Munich between 1985 and 1990, scoring five goals. He Won four Bundesliga titles and one DFB-Pokal title. Also Played in the 1987 European Cup Final. Flick later played 44 matches for 1. FC Köln before retiring in 1993 due to injuries. His last spell as a footballer was with Victoria Bammental from 1994 until 2000. Flick began his managerial career at fourth-division club Victoria Bammental as a player-manager.

Also Between 2006 and 2014, he was the assistant coach of Germany under manager Joachim Löw, winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Rejoined Bayern Munich as an assistant coach in 2019, becoming interim manager in November 2019 and later appointed permanently.He Won the UEFA Champions League, completing the club’s second continental treble.
