His father served in the Korean War and worked as a sanitation worker, while his mother was a hostess at Howard Johnson’s. Buscemi’s paternal ancestors hailed from the town of Menfi in Sicily, Italy, and his mother has English and Dutch ancestry. He has three brothers: Jon, Ken, and Michael (who is also an actor).
Buscemi developed a love for old movies during his upbringing. While studying drama at Nassau Community College, he explored stand-up comedy. Interestingly, before his acting career took off, he worked as a firefighter at Engine Company 55 in New York’s Little Italy neighborhood from 1980 to 1984.
