Steven Vincent Buscemi was born on December 13, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were Dorothy (née Wilson) and John Buscemi. His father served in the Korean War and worked as a sanitation worker, while his mother was a hostess at Howard Johnson’s. Buscemi’s paternal ancestors hailed from the town of Menfi in Sicily, Italy, and his mother has English and Dutch ancestry. He has three brothers: Jon, Ken, and Michael (who is also an actor).
Buscemi developed a love for old movies during his upbringing. While studying drama at Nassau Community College, he explored stand-up comedy. Interestingly, before his acting career took off, he worked as a firefighter at Engine Company 55 in New York’s Little Italy neighborhood from 1980 to 1984.
