Biography:
Sheldon Keefe was born on September 17, 1980, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. As a youth, Keefe participated in the 1994 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Toronto Young Nationals minor ice hockey team. In the 1998–99 season, he played for the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors and the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Keefe also scored over 100 points and was named the OHL Rookie of the Year.
He made his NHL debut with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2000–01 season.
Keefe’s playing career also spanned from 2000 to 2004. After retiring from active play, Keefe transitioned to coaching. He served as the head coach of the Soo Greyhounds in the OHL and later became the head coach of the Toronto Marlies, the Maple Leafs’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.
Under his guidance, the Toronto Marlies won their first Calder Cup championship in 2018. Currently, Keefe also holds the position of head coach for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL.
