But for the swift intervention of the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, a self-confessed trained karatist, Kennedy Agyapong could have most likely left his college MP, Sylvester Tetteh with some broken ribs and a dislocated jaw bone.

Sylvester Tetteh narrowly escaped the beatings and flying kicks which was to have happened right in the Plenary of Ghana’s Parliament at a time other sitting was in session and legislators were on their feet making meaningful contributions.

Someway, somehow, the drama seems to have escaped the eyes of the First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Owusu who was presiding in the absence of the substantive speaker.

Video recordings of the incident captured Sylvester Tetteh, the Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro and Kennedy Agyapong, MP for Assin Central exchanging words.

Mr. Agyapong was seen pointing his forefinger into the face of Mr. Tetteh. It was not clear what exactly Mr. Tetteh said at that point but Kennedy Agyapong seemed to have been infuriated some more and then came out of his seat to face him head on.

Sylvester Tetteh then turned to walk away briskly but Kennedy pursued him with same speed. After a few steps, Sylvester Tetteh who clearly seemed to be escaping got to a pew where some other MPs were seated. On seeing them, he stopped right there. Interestingly, the seated MPs ignored both Sylvester Tetteh and Kennedy Agyapong.

Kennedy immediately caught up with the Bortianor MP but just when the real showdown was about to go down between them, Alexander Afenyo-Markin dashed with speed from his seat at the front pew and stepped in between the two.

Afenyo-Markin, acting as though he was a referee, threw his arms around Sylvester Tetteh from the back and started to walk him towards the exit. Kennedy continued to follow them until they got to the door and walked out of the Chamber. It was only at that point that Mr. Agyapong reluctantly turned around and started to walk back to his seat while mumbling some inaudible words.

    It ended in an anti-climax.

About an hour later, another video emerged on Kennedy Agyapong and Sylvester Tetteh in the office of Afenyo-Markin smoking the peace pipe and laughing heartedly.

The three were seated on same couch and Afenyo-Markin was heard saying to Sylvester Tetteh: “greet your godfather, greet your godfather” while the three of them laughed aloud.

Reports say Afenyo-Markin after what happened in the Chamber, called the two persons to his office to solve whatever differences might have led to the near-fisticuffs.

There was no official explanation from any of the parties what sparked the exact disagreement.

    Trained Karatist

In June of 2020, Kennedy Agyapong had a similar encounter with his colleague MP for Asawase in the Ashanti region, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak.

In an interview with Paul Adom Otchere on that incident, Kennedy Agyapong said he was a trained karatist and if he had not been restrained, would restrained have beaten the Asawase MP to pulp like he used to beat people when he was a teenager.

“Even if you’re bigger than me I will beat you…hell no! I don’t deal with cheap people…he’s not relevant in my life…oh sure I would have given him some flying kicks he will be surprised I kick good”, Mr. Agyapong told Paul Adom Otchere.
