Goalie Richard Ofori of the Black Stars has apologized to Ghanaians for the team’s appalling performance in Cote D’Ivoire during the 2023 AFCON.

The stopper for the Orlando Pirates apologized on his X (previously Twitter) page, following in the footsteps of his teammates Alexander Djiku, Mohammed Kudus, and Osman Bukari.

Ghana lost all three of their games in the competition and was eliminated from the AFCON this year at the group stage.

The Black Stars were eliminated from the competition after losing 1-2 to Cape Verde and drawing 2-2 with Egypt and Mozambique in Group B.

Ghana has now missed the round of 16 in two consecutive AFCON tournaments. The Black Stars have come under fire for their latest AFCON exit, and Richard Ofori has apologized for the disappointment.

“As a collective, we fell short. We promise to work harder, address our mistakes, and strive for a better outcome in the future. Your understanding means the world to us” part of his statement read.

Due to his role in Ghana wasting a two-goal lead to draw with Mozambique, Richard Ofori has come under heavy criticism.

Sports journalist Saddick Adams has described the Ghana National Senior team as a crime scene which he says has been operated by few cartels from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and few government officials.

He made this known when reacting to the whopping $8.5million budget for Ghana’s participation in the 2023 AFCON revealed by Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The Angel FM Sports Journalist reacting to the revelation described it as crime committed by officials of GFA to budget such huge amount for a tournament that the winner gets $7m.

Saddick post reads, “Take a country like Zambia for instance. They came to the same AFCON with same number of players. Proposed a budget of $2.1m to their parliament. Ghana presented a budget of over $8.5m according to latest documents leaked. Regardless of your party, to defend this is to defend crime against yourself. The whole Black Stars is a crime scene operated by a few cartel made up of GFA and government officials.”
