According to a decision by the Kumasi Traditional Council, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been cleared of charges of making disparaging remarks about the Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II.

The controversy started when Kokosuhene Nana Kwaku Duah accused Chairman Wontumi of making derogatory remarks about the Asantehene during the NPP parliamentary vetting process. Alongside party executives and government representatives, such as Majority Leader Osei-Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, National Chairman Stephen Ntim, and General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, Chairman Wontumi appeared before the Council, refuting all of the accusations.

Chairman Wontumi fiercely contested the charges during the hearing, characterizing them as willful and false fabrications of what actually happened during the vetting process.

The Kumasi Traditional Council conducted a thorough investigation after the Kokosuhene, Nana Kwaku Duah, stood by his assertions.

The council unexpectedly rejected the accusations and urged the parties to settle their differences without consulting the Asantehene. The judge, Bantamhene Baffour Owusu Amankwaatie VI, advised chiefs not to get involved in politics during the fervent campaigning for the general elections scheduled for 2024.

In addition to stressing the importance of harmony and peace, Baffour Owusu Amankwaatie VI urged all parties to resolve their differences amicably. Consequently, the investigation came to an end when Chairman Wontumi was declared innocent by the Kumasi Traditional Council.

As the community gets ready to celebrate the Asantehene’s 25th anniversary, the council also urged calm. Chairman Wontumi and the NPP are relieved by the decision, which will let them concentrate on getting ready for the next elections without having to worry about the accusations hanging over them.

Meanwhile, Maurice Ampaw claims he is unsure of his plans for the Manhyia Palace.

He does not see the need to go on Monday even though the Ashanti Chiefs have called him because, in his opinion, they have been biased on the matter.
