According to reports, the Manhyia Palace has denied media allegations that the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, should not have been summoned to appear before the Kumasi Traditional Council.

According to media reports, the Asantehene gave the Kumasi Traditional Council the order to adjourn discussions regarding Chairman Wontumi’s alleged disrespect for the person sitting on the golden stool.

In a meeting held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Manhyia Palace, Nana Kofi Owusu, the Chief Linguist of Otumfuo, gave the NPP, under the leadership of Justin Frimpong Kodua, instructions to present Chairman Wontumi to the Asanteman Council in a week.

Wontumi is encouraged to show up in spite of any health issues in response to alleged disparaging remarks made about Asanteman.

However, news websites have purported to have received an order from the Asantehene telling the Kumasi Traditional Council to put Chairman Wontumi’s case on hold.

However, sources close to the palace told JoyNews that these reports were denied and that the Asantehene had not given any such order.

In a related news, Wontumi Multimedia’s management has expressed genuine regret to Manhyia in response to Lawyer Maurlce Ampaw’s offensive comments regarding the royal fraternity during his live TV talk show, “Mmra Ne Abrabo Mu Nsem” Show, over the weekend.

‘Away Bus,’ the general manager, and Mr. Adom Appiah, the legal representative for Wontumi Multimedia, apologized Monday on the late-afternoon political talk show “Talk Ghana,” which was anchored by Kwaku Nkansah Kyeremanteng.

Mr. Agyei said, “He erred in his speech and spoke against traditional authorities at the Manhyia palace. It was wrong and so we are here to apologise. Management of the media house will go to the Palace but ahead of that, we want to use this channel to render an unqualified apology. We are on our knees. We plead that the traditional authorities forgive us.”

“Indeed, pre-production work takes place but the premeditated views of hosts cannot be known. We would like to state that Wontumi Multimedia can never use this medium to disrespect authorities. Who are we? Manhyia Palace has provided us with this land to work.”
