Former president and National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama has urged Ghanaians not give up amid Ghana’s economic crisis.
In an effort to raise awareness of his proposed 24-hour economy policy, John Mahama led a large group of NDC executives and supporters on a walk on Wednesday, January 24.
The NDC flagbearer stopped at the Kejetia Market to speak with participants and vendors as the crowd joined the procession through the main thoroughfares of Kumasi.
Mr. Mahama criticized the government for failing to finish the Ashanti Region’s other important infrastructure projects as well as the second phase of the Kumasi Central Market.
In addition, he held the government accountable for not keeping its word to the Kejetia Market fire victims.
The NDC flagbearer encouraged Ghanaians to keep hope alive because a better government is coming and that Ghana will rise again.
Additionally, Mr. Mahama took the time to discuss the proposed 24-hour Economy policy and stressed how it will aid in addressing Ghana’s unemployment issues.
“24-hour economy is being implemented in other countries, it is not something new at all. Pharmacies, pump stations, and sawmills were all operating when we were all kids. How come some companies now close at 5 pm, 8 pm. Can’t the Kejetia Market operate a 24-hour economy for people to buy stuff? We will provide security and transport for people to work at night. Other measures will be put in place to ensure that the 24-hour economy works.”
“The government doesn’t deserve another term, it failed to deliver its promises to the traders after the fire outbreak in the market. The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, reneged on his promise of renovating the market. The market is in a sorry state. Don’t worry, the next NDC government will renovate for you,” he promised.

Meanwhile, Manhyia Palace has imposed a ban on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) activities in the Ashanti region following the party’s Ashanti Regional chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi’s recent derogatory comments about Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
In response to Wontumi’s alleged offensive remarks against Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, the council declared that it would not permit the NPP to function until Wontumi honored a summons.
