Biography:
Tara VanDerveer is an American basketball coach, widely regarded as one of the greatest of all time. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1953, she had a stellar playing career herself, captaining the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Bruins to three national championships.
After graduating, VanDerveer embarked on a highly successful coaching career, also starting at the high school level before landing her first collegiate head coaching job at Western Kentucky University in 1982. In 1985, she made the pivotal move to Stanford University, where she has remained ever since, shaping the program into a national powerhouse.
