Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, former Minister for Trade and Industry has expressed his willingness to be the vice-presidential candidate for National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 Hot Issues show, Dr. Spio-Garbrah indicated that he is capable and ready should John Mahama select him as his running-mate.
“I am also capable and ready, so it is a matter of his choice. If he [John Mahama] chooses me, you’ll hear about it,” the former Trade Minister said.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah further added that he has made himself known and available to lead the NDC party and Ghana even though he has been to many other places.
He also warned that the emergence of other political parties could potentially dilute the strength of NDC to defeat NPP in the 2024 polls.
“NPP and NDC have selected their flagbearers all of a sudden there another political party [New Force]. Were you aware of New Frce two months ago? Somebody has just shown up, it changes the permutations,” Dr. Spio-Garbrah said.
Despite this the former Education Minister believes in the party’s leadership ability to tighten loosed ends in order to secure victory in the 2024 elections.
“The crop of NDC leaders can deliver a good elections at anytime if the space of electoral robbery at all levels, if intimidation by law enforcement agencies are completely overcome and done away with.
“If foreign institution that are supposed to help also stand on their ground to provide the appropriate support at the right time, NDc should win,” he said.
Meanwhile, the public has been urged by Nana Akomea, the Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), to stop John Dramani Mahama from being re-elected as the next president of Ghana.
He wants the electorate in Ghana to completely ignore the NDC presidential candidate for 2024’s campaign statements emphasizing that he has nothing new to offer.
