Mahama Ayariga, the Bawku Central Member of Parliament, has urged Parliament to get involved in the rapidly worsening situation in Bawku.
The lawmaker requests that Parliament look into the detrimental acts that have resulted in the deaths of about five people, including the claimed killing of three young men by certain soldiers.
“I want Parliament to go into this matter. It’s been happening…because of the conflict situation, there has been some level of tolerance of misconduct, but the excesses are becoming too much. So, we need to step up and demand some accountability even from the military,” “ Mr. Ayariga stated on Saturday during an interview on Key Points on TV3.
“…those who were killed yesterday, that was dastardly, that was unacceptable and the perpetrators must be searched for by the law enforcement agencies and dealt with.”
The soldiers in question, according to Mahama Ayariga, are supposed to have killed three men in Sabongari, in the Upper East Region.
He has demanded that the Ghana Armed Forces turn them in. The MP stated that the claimed killing by the soldiers is wrong and condemnable in the eyes of the law.
On Friday, January 19, reports stated that a group of approximately fifteen soldiers had captured some young men at Sabongari, taken them to an unidentified place, tortured and killed them.
Mr. Ayariga, who also verified the death, stated that the tragic event occurred on Thursday night.
Additionally, the MP has called on Parliament to step in and stop the worsening fighting in Bawku.
“Unfortunately, we even had additional killings last night…they hit the three of them mercilessly. The Assemblyman tried to intervene, but they refused to listen and they beat these boys and finally shot the three of them,” he said.
