President Nana Akufo-Addo has come under fire from National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama for remarks he made regarding the lack of progress in Ekumfi.
The president’s remark, in Mr. Mahama’s opinion, goes against the presidential oath.
In a conversation with a few Ekumfi traditional leaders over the weekend, President Akufo-Addo claimed that he was unaware of the developments in the community since the people there had voted to remove NPP Parliamentary Candidate Francis Ato Cudjoe in the 2020 elections.
Mr. Mahama responded by expressing his disapproval of the President’s remarks and calling them regrettable.
He emphasized that President Akufo-Addo’s action swere incompatible with the principles stated in Article 36 of Chapter Six of the constitution, which requires governments to ensure the equitable distribution of national resources, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“The President’s comment that he ignored the development of Ekumfi because they voted out his parliamentarian is most unfortunate. President Akufo-Addo has a penchant for making such partisan statements, as we witnessed recently during his visit to flood victims in Mepe. His actions contradict the oath he swore as President to do justice to all manner of persons.”
“Let me also remind him of chapter six of our constitution, specifically Article 36 clause 2(d), which stipulates the need for governments to undertake “… even and balanced development of all regions and every part of each region of Ghana, and, in particular, improving the conditions of life in the rural areas, and generally, redressing any imbalance in development between the rural and the urban areas,” he tweeted.

Relatedly, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has come under fire from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for his assertion that he denied the Ekumfi constituency its share of the national cake because the voters there supported the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate.
The president’s remark, according to the NDC, is unpresidential and demonstrates his “vindictive” nature.
