Nana Addo prioritizes politics over devt that’s why his govt is failing – NDC

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has come under fire from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for his assertion that he denied the Ekumfi constituency its share of the national cake because the voters there supported the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate.

The president’s remark, according to the NDC, is unpresidential and demonstrates his “vindictive” nature.

While having a courtesy call at the Jubilee House with a few traditional leaders from Ekumfi, President Akufo-Addo revealed the information.

He expressed disappointment and refused to give Ekumfi the necessary advancement, claiming that Francis Ato Cudjoe, the deputy minister he had appointed, was ousted by voters in the 2020 elections.

Later on, he promised to focus on the constituency.

In response to these remarks, NDC deputy secretary Mustapha Gbande stressed in a Wednesday interview with Eyewitness News that President Akufo-Addo had no business acting in this way when he spoke to the family of a deceased former president.

“It seems that if the president was speaking to somebody like me, it would have been acceptable, but the president being the president of the Republic of Ghana was speaking to the family, direct family members of a late former president [John Evans Atta Mills]. So, to have made such comments, for us, is unpresidential.”

“It just reflects the nature of the president we have, who is so vindictive and believes that he prioritizes politics over development. That is why his government is failing,” Mr. Gbande stated.

Meanwhile, rejecting accusations that the president had underperformed during his eight years in office, Samuel Atta Akyea acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict had a significant impact on his administration.

“I do not think he [Akufo-Addo] has underperformed. What I believe is that he has had a lot of trouble. People underrate the power of the COVID-19. President Osagyefo Nkrumah never faced that. The Russian-Ukraine war, in which the evidence is conclusive. The cold fact that economies contracted, because of these situations.
