Ghanaian youth have rallied a support for New Force leader and independent presidential candidate, Nana Kwame Bediako also known as Cheddar following latest publication of tax evasion.
Earlier InsightNewsgh.com reported that, Cheddar is embroiled in a number of tax evasion scandals after substantial fines for not filing his income tax are disclosed in documents from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
With over GH¢7 million in estimated taxes evaded, there are serious concerns about Bediako’s financial responsibility and transparency, especially in light of his ambitions to become the country’s leader.
The records reveal a pattern of tax evasion that is repeated. For failing to file personal income tax returns, Cheddar was fined GH¢15,222, GH¢14,492, GH¢13,760, and GH¢6,526 between 2013 and 2016.
Even though it seemed like Cheddar was in compliance for the tax years 2018, 2019, and 2020, the alarming pattern of non-compliance returned in 2021 and 2022.
The estimated evaded taxes for these two years, GH¢2,088,228 for 2021 and GH¢5,096,536 for 2022, are astounding, according to the leaked document.
The main platform of Cheddar’s presidential campaign is his pledge to bring about significant progress and transformation in Ghanaian politics.
But the fact that he has consistently neglected to fulfill even the most basic civic obligation—paying taxes—casts a serious doubt on his credibility.
Following this report, Ghanaians on social media are alleging that, the NPP government is doing everything it can to sabotage and tarnish his reputation because it is afraid of him.
Recall, just recently, the government cancelled Cheddar’s grand programm dubbed the ‘The Convention which was supposed to take place at the Black Stars Sqaure.
The programm was called off few hours to the start following an order from government citing ‘unforeseen circumstances.’
Prior to the cancellation of the Convention event, the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) had deported the New Force spokesperson, Shallie Abbiusi for allegedly entering the country with fake documents.
In addition, yesterday, Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) also canceled Nana Kwame Bediako’s interview with GTV citing ‘orders from above.’
With all these recent schemed and deliberate actions to sabotage Cheddar, some Ghanaians have come to the conclusion that, the New Africa Foundation leader poses as a threat to this current government and therefore he deserves their vote ahead of the 2024 elections.
Here some of the reactions below;
Immigration deported Cheddar's spokesperson, Security stopped him from holding the convention, GTV were stopped from interviewing him and GRA is now accusing him of Tax Evasion😂 Some people are scared of him lmao pic.twitter.com/XsIyGMvbxg
